Join us today!Job Description - Senior Policy Analyst, GOPP (240009PX)About the Office of the Inspector General (OIG or Office)Since its creation as the nation's first state-level inspector general's office, the Massachusetts OIG has been at the forefront of promoting effective government and the responsible use of public money and property. The OIG is an independent agency charged with preventing and detecting fraud, waste and abuse in the use of public funds and public property.The Office is led by the Inspector General of the Commonwealth, who is appointed by the Governor, Attorney General and Auditor. The OIG is organized into three bureaus: Specialty & Government, Legal & Compliance, and Operations, Training & Publications.Senior Policy Analyst: Position OverviewAs part of the OIG's GOPP Division, the Senior Policy Analyst will track legislative developments, prepare research briefings, and assist the GOPP Division in carrying out its legislative mandates. The Senior Policy Analyst will be responsible for conducting research on public policy issues, drafting reports, letters and other work products, and collaborating with senior staff and colleagues in the GOPP Division.Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Perform background research on public policy issues and entities.
  • Prepare briefings for the OIG's external meetings.
  • Attend legislative hearings, track and analyze bills, and inform division staff of legislative proceedings.
  • Lead OIG projects through research, analysis and review of government documents, reports and budgets.
  • Draft and assist in the preparation of reports, testimony, letters and other work projects.
  • Represent the OIG at external meetings and events.
  • Assist division staff with statutorily mandated reviews.
  • Monitor state and municipal government developments for topics of interest to the OIG.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.QualificationsKey Abilities, Skills and Experience:
    • 6 or more years of experience in related areas, such as policy analysis, government, budget analysis or public administration.
    • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with agency personnel, and state and local officials.
    • Excellent research, writing, editing and verbal skills.
    • Ability to identify risks and issues on projects and assignments.
    • In-depth understanding of state and municipal government.
    • Ability to keep meticulous and consistent documentation.
    • Works independently and demonstrates the ability to effectively manage multiple tasks.
    • Works well with others, supporting a positive team environment.
    • Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office 365.Preferred Abilities, Skills and Experience include:
      • A bachelor's or master's degree with experience or classwork in one or more of the following areas: government, law, public administration, finance or another related field.
      • Ability to review, analyze and understand government statutes, regulations, policies and procedures.
      • Knowledge of public construction laws and real property transactions.Salary Range$75,000 - $90,000Other Position InformationFull time/ExemptHybrid Work Schedule:The Office of the Inspector General offers a hybrid work schedule.
