Job Description - Data Analyst (3309513)The Massachusetts General Hospital Division of Palliative Care & Geriatric Medicine is committed to providing the highest quality care to our patients and their families in a respectful, efficient, and safe environment. We are dedicated to advancing the diagnosis and treatment of disease through research and education. Our Division includes the research Center for Aging and Serious Illness (CASI), which is associated with the Mongan Institute at Massachusetts General Hospital. The mission of the Center is to better understand the needs of those living with serious illness and their caregivers, develop new interventions, improve current treatments, and explore new questions at the intersection of aging and serious illness.The Data Analyst (I or II) reports to the CASI Research Administrative Manager, the CASI Center Director, and Division Leadership. Strong candidates for this role will have experience conducting observational data analyses, working with raw data from a variety of sources (e.g., administrative claims, electronic health records), and using large longitudinal datasets. The ideal candidate has strong analytic and methodological skills, excellent communication skills, and a personal mission to improve care for older adults or those living with serious illness.PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:The Data Analyst will work collaboratively with CASI and the Division to perform a variety of activities including assisting with program evaluation, statistical analysis, and reporting results for various internal and external projects. Responsibilities include:

  • Database development, software programming, and data management.
  • Creating dashboards and working with large national survey, electronic health record (EPIC), and administrative claims datasets.
  • Using SAS or other analytical software to clean data, build datasets, and run statistical analyses.
  • Translating evaluation questions into analytic plans and constructing analytic datasets from electronic data warehouses.
  • Producing data summaries and conducting valid data comparisons and statistical tests.
  • Evaluating healthcare delivery models, contributing to scientific discovery, and growing in knowledge and expertise.SKILLS & COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
    • Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.
    • Strong oral and written communication and presentation skills.
    • Strong analytic and data management skills, especially with clinical and biostatistical analyses.
    • Practical problem-solving and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
    • Ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines.
    • Excellent organizational skills, accuracy, and attention to detail.
    • Proficiency with software packages, including Microsoft Office suite.
    • Resilient, collaborative, flexible, innovative, and curious.
    • Strong programming skills in SAS and/or other analytic software.
    • Basic knowledge of statistical testing and multivariate modeling required.
    • Experience transforming and analyzing administrative healthcare data is preferred.
    • Experience with compiling longitudinal datasets for analysis is preferred.
    • Knowledgeable and compliant in all regulatory requirements, including HIPAA.WORKING CONDITIONS:
      • Fast-paced and dynamic healthcare administration office.
      • MGH Main Campus, with periodic travel to other locations as necessary.
      • Typical work hours are Monday through Friday, but may vary based on event demands.
      • Hybrid: Primarily on-site, with temporary telecommuting options available.QUALIFICATIONS:
        • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
