Job Description:
The World is a one-hour, nationally distributed weekday radio
public affairs program co-produced by GBH and the Public Radio
Exchange (PRX). The show offers a mix of news, features,
interviews, and music from around the globe, developed specifically
for an American audience. The World's companion website,
TheWorld.org , offers a similar mix of news and features along with
slideshows, videos, podcasts, and interactive graphics that expand
on the radio content. The World and theworld.org use social media
and other relevant tools to maximize user engagement and enhance
the user experience.JOB OVERVIEWReporting to the Assignment Editor,
the World Radio Producer will undertake all aspects of production
associated with The World's climate programming. Working as part of
a team, the World Radio Producer will look for original story
ideas, conduct research, book guests, brief the hosts, produce
studio interviews and mixes, and edit audio for the radio
broadcast.The World Radio Producer will also contribute to the
daily production of the show on a regular basis a couple days of
the week to be predetermined by the Executive Editor in
consultation with the Show Producer and Assignment Editor, while
also maintaining an environmental news calendar and completing
other research and production duties as assigned.The World Radio
Producer will also be expected at times to create content based on
radio segments for -TheWorld.org -and its social media channels.
Competitive candidates will work well on tight daily deadlines and
think creatively about new ways to craft compelling audio stories
about climate change.This role is based in Boston, MA, and requires
your on-site presence every Tuesday and Wednesday at our Brighton
office. Additional in-office days may be required at the discretion
of your manager.What you get to do:Originate story ideas mainly
related to the environment, climate science and solutions; conduct
research; brief the hosts; produce studio interviews and edit audio
for the radio broadcast.Serve as main driver behind The World's
weekly "Big Fix" climate solutions series, researching and
generating interview and story ideas from across the globe, booking
guests, and editing audio for the radio broadcast. -Support host
Carolyn Beeler's climate reporting, including helping with advanced
prep for overseas tripsCreate multi-media content for theworld.org
using the CMS, including writing posts, sourcing images, and
creating slide shows when appropriate.Be a general producer for the
daily show on fixed days of the week and as a fill in for when
other producers are out.What skills you need:An interest in general
news as well for daily show needs.Strong track record in generating
original and engaging story ideas.Ability to write clearly and
creatively on deadline, possess strong technical skills in digital
audio editing and be proficient with the latest multimedia
tools.Must be self-motivated and capable of independent work but
must also perform well in a collaborative environment.EDUCATION AND
EXPERIENCEBachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
required.3 - 5 years' experience as a radio producer/audio
journalist and a strong familiarity with global and domestic
environmental issues.Experience meeting daily deadlines and be able
to work simultaneously on a range of subjects from hard news to
