Who We Are: Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology (BFIT) is a private, non-profit technical college located in Boston's South End. Founded in 1908, the college is proud of its long tradition of educating students for skilled, high-demand technical careers in a variety of industries, including automotive, advanced manufacturing, computer technology, health care, and construction trades through a mixture of 1-year, 2-year, and 4-year programs. Position Summary: Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology is seeking an energetic and enthusiastic adjunct faculty member to teach in our HVAC day program. This is a part time professional position reporting directly to the program chair. Compensation is calculated by semester, starting at $9,800.00 per semester. The primary responsibility will be to teach students HVAC courses such as basic electrical and safety, basic and commercial refrigeration, heating, and air conditioning in our 9 month training program. Applicants will also be expected to provide academic advising to students, assist the program director and participate in department training, meetings and graduation. Key Responsibilities of Part-Time Faculty: Teach during class hours from 8:00am to 2:30pm, on a hybrid schedule Monday through Thursday Availability to meet with students when needed. Use of course texts, outlines, and other curriculum materials in accordance with college and department policies. Any deviations from the course syllabus must be approved by the department chair. Respond to chair and administrative requests in a timely manner and complete all responsibilities effectively; prompt in keeping appointments, attending meetings (when possible), starting classes on time. Respond to students in a timely manner Evaluate student achievement and provide timely feedback while maintaining accurate student records in the CANVAS LMS. Provide adequate support to students and maintain a respectful, professional rapport. Participation in communications with the college and department. This includes utilizing the college Dropout Detective warning system to alert advisors when students falter. Demonstrate effective teaching including preparation, meeting course goals, organization and presentation of material, student involvement, and classroom management. Collaborate with other college departments (academic, student affairs, enrollment, and development) for the mutual benefit of all. Qualifications: At least three years of experience in the HVAC field Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Highly organized, motivated and results driven Prior teaching experience preferred Clean background check Applicants who may not exactly meet these qualifications are encouraged to describe in writing why they would contribute substantially to the success of the college and could carry out the requirements of the job. Type of Appointment: A part-time appointment to teach day courses four days a week, that would begin immediately, with expectation of renewal for the following semester on satisfactory performance.
