Position Purpose
The Senior Pipeline Integrity Engineer plays a vital role in
supporting the Transmission Integrity Management Program (TIMP) and
Distribution Integrity Management Program (DIMP) to ensure the
continued safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance of
Unitil's natural gas transmission and distribution infrastructure.
Working under the Manager of Integrity Management, this position is
responsible for conducting engineering analyses, risk assessments,
and technical evaluations to maintain the integrity of pipeline
assets in compliance with 49 CFR Part 192 and applicable state and
federal regulations.
The Senior Pipeline Integrity Engineer executes pipeline integrity
assessments, performing system modeling, analyzing threats and
risks, and developing mitigation plans to ensure proactive
integrity management. This includes supporting inline inspections
(ILI), direct assessments, corrosion monitoring programs, Maximum
Allowable Operating Pressure (MAOP) reconfirmation, and
integrity-related capital projects. The role also requires
coordination with operations, regulatory compliance teams, and
contractors to implement best practices and maintain compliance
with integrity management regulations, such as PHMSA's MEGA
Rule.
As a key technical resource within the Integrity Management group,
the Senior Pipeline Integrity Engineer ensures that engineering
principles are applied to maintain pipeline safety and operational
efficiency. The individual in this role must have extensive
experience of pipeline materials, stress analysis, and corrosion
mitigation techniques. Additionally, the Senior Pipeline Integrity
Engineer is responsible for preparing technical reports, supporting
regulatory audits, and contributing to continuous improvement
initiatives within the company's integrity management programs.

Pipeline Integrity Assessment & Compliance: Assist in performing
integrity assessments for both TIMP and DIMP, ensuring compliance
with 49 CFR Part 192 and state regulations. Support inline
inspection (ILI), pressure testing, direct assessments, and other
methodologies to identify potential threats such as corrosion,
stress corrosion cracking, and mechanical damage. Conduct technical
evaluations of assessment results and recommend mitigation
actions.

Risk Analysis & Data Review: Conduct pipeline risk assessments
using industry-standard methodologies, including ASME B31.8S.
Analyze data from inline inspections, GIS systems, historical
failure records, and operational reports to determine pipeline
integrity risks. Contributes to maintaining a robust risk model for
transmission and distribution systems.

MAOP Reconfirmation & Material Verification: Support the Manager of
Integrity Management in reconfirming MAOP in accordance with 49 CFR
192.624. Performs material verification, record traceability (TVC
compliance), and pressure testing strategies to ensure regulatory
compliance. Maintain documentation of MAOP validation efforts.

Corrosion Control & Mitigation Strategies: Support corrosion
monitoring programs, including cathodic protection system
evaluations, close interval surveys, and internal corrosion direct
assessments (ICDA). Reviews pipeline coatings, corrosion inhibitor
programs, and pipeline maintenance practices to ensure longevity of
assets. Work with corrosion control personnel and contractors to
develop mitigation strategies

Regulatory Compliance & Audit Support: Assist in preparing
integrity management documentation for PHMSA and state regulatory
audits. Support responses to regulatory inquiries and ensure
integrity programs remain in compliance with new and emerging
regulations. Maintain organized records of integrity assessments,
risk evaluations, and mitigation activities.
Qualifications for Engineer (Pipeline Integrity)
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, or Materials
Engineering required.
Professional Engineering (PE) License or eligibility to obtain a PE
is a plus.
Experience:
0-3 years of experience in pipeline integrity, integrity
management, or pipeline engineering within the natural gas
industry.
Knowledge of TIMP, DIMP, MAOP reconfirmation, and pipeline risk
assessment methodologies.
Experience analyzing ILI, pressure testing, cathodic protection,
and pipeline corrosion data.
Familiarity with 49 CFR 192, ASME B31.8S, API RP 1163, API RP 1173,
NACE SP 0502, NACE SP 0102 and other applicable industry
standards.
Experience working with GIS-based risk models and integrity
assessment software is preferred.
Strong analytical, technical writing, and problem-solving
skills.

and pipeline corrosion data.
