world.Position Overview:The Senior Electrical Engineer will report
to the Head of Electrical and Software Engineering and be a primary
trusted interdisciplinary partner to help ensure the Volta
instruments deliver the highest quality, and trusted DNA sequencing
biological samples. Areas of work include debugging, designing, and
prototyping electrical systems within our complex electromechanical
life sciences device. This role is perfect for an electrical
engineer with a robotics background or desire to dive into the
robotics world.Day To Day and Year 1:
- Work closely with our engineering and biology teams to dive
deep into Volta's technology.
- Pick up basics of molecular biology, genome engineering, and
material science as relevant to Volta.
- Get up to speed on current architecture for the electrical
system.Within 3 months you'll:
- Learn Volta's technical stack and contribute to advancing
current features of the product and prototyping new features.
- Debug and troubleshoot fleet instruments, then feed
improvements into the next generation designs.
- Bring up, test and debug prototype electrical systems.
- Design and document incoming PCBA inspection criteria and
SOPs.
- Learn the ABCs of DNA sequencing.By 6 months you'll:
- Update existing circuit designs to improve reliability and
functionality.
- Build, test, and validate a fully functioning prototype of new
electrical subsystems.
- Work with external vendors and fabricate circuit boards based
on your design.
- Work with customers in the field to gather feedback.
- Start designing the next generation electrical systems.At 12+
months you'll:
- Be responsible for the design, implementation, and integration
of new electrical features into our products.
- Invent novel actuation and sensing mechanisms and contribute to
IP generation.
- Contribute to system architectural decisions such as motor
selection, motor controllers, single board computer selections,
etc.
- Ensure that all electrical designs comply with industry
standards and regulatory requirements such as CE, FCC, UL.Your
Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related
engineering or physics degree.
- 5+ years of engineering experience in a professional
setting.
- Strong systems level thinking in designing electronics for
electromechanical products that involve motors, heaters, and other
actuators of all types.
- Experience with designing mixed signal circuits, high voltage
systems, power electronics.
- Experience developing digital systems with digital logic and
embedded processors.
- Design, layout, and fabrication of printed circuit boards using
Altium Designer or similar tools.
- Proficient in hand building, soldering, reworking, crimping,
etc for rapid in-house prototypes or repairs.
- Demonstrated experience balancing good quality practices and
delivering.
- Solutions oriented contributor with a bias towards action over
perfection.
- Ability to collaborate in a fast-paced team environment with
rapidly changing priorities.
- Pro-active team player who thinks ahead, plans, and suggests
solutions.
- Continuous learner who embraces a growth mindset.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to synthesize
technical information and present it to specialists and
non-specialists.This is a full-time position that requires a
significant amount of in-person work and collaboration onsite at
our Seaport Office in Boston, MA. If you are unable to relocate or
commute to the Boston MA area, this role won't be a match.Our
