your ambitions.About the role:The Vice President, Chief Compliance
Officer (CCO) is responsible for Boston Scientific's global
compliance program under the oversight of the Company's Board of
Directors. The CCO reports to the General Counsel and is a member
of the Legal and Global Compliance senior management team. The CCO
is primarily responsible for all the elements of the Company's
compliance program which supports compliance with applicable laws,
regulations and industry best practices. The CCO position requires
strong leadership and vision to continually enhance the compliance
program and meet the Company's evolving needs. The CCO's scope also
includes oversight of the Company's third-party and trade
compliance programs. The CCO is responsible for various regulatory
filings, including state and federal transparency requirements (for
example, The US Sunshine Act).This is a hybrid position (in office
minimum three days per week) located in Marlborough, MA.Key
Responsibilities:
- Set direction and objectives for the Company's global
compliance program, and proactively identify opportunities for
Legal and Global Compliance to add value to the Company.
- Member of the Legal and Global Compliance leadership team which
sets and executes strategic priorities for the department. Develop
and oversee strategic plans, budgets, talent management plans,
DE&I and other department-wide leadership initiatives.
- Manage a team of compliance professionals. Oversee and monitor
the implementation and effectiveness of the compliance program.
Evolve the program as appropriate, in light of changes in
organizational needs, benchmarking, changes to the applicable laws,
regulations and governmental requirements of the U.S. and other
jurisdictions where the Company conducts business.
- Provide updates to Boston Scientific's senior management on a
periodic basis regarding compliance matters, including risks,
internal and external audit reports, investigations (including any
resulting in corrective or preventive actions) and other
significant compliance activities. The CCO is responsible for
making reports to the Risk Committee of the Board of Directors
whenever the CCO deems necessary, but not less than on a quarterly
basis. The CCO also provides a report to the full Board of
Directors annually and reports to the Audit Committee, as needed.
The CCO interacts with, and provides reports to, external
auditors.
- Fulfill reporting for certification requirements of the CCO as
required under the applicable laws of the U.S. or other
jurisdictions where the Company conducts business. Oversee programs
to report data and certify, as required, to transparency
requirements globally.
- Create and foster deep relationships across worldwide business
and functional leadership to support Company strategic plans and
goals. Participate in various councils and other strategic
initiatives to support Company growth and decision making.
- Develop, maintain and promote the Code of Conduct and Global
Compliance policies and procedures designed to minimize
organizational risks and to support compliance with applicable laws
and regulations. As part of compliance governance, oversee a
network of compliance committees globally.
- Oversee the Company's ethics hotline, triage and investigations
processes, including conducting internal compliance investigations
as well as working with internal and external counsel and other
functions to conduct or support external investigations by
governmental agencies.
- Develop and promote internal communications and training on the
Code of Conduct and compliance policies and topics, including
through annual compliance campaigns, company-wide communication
channels and in coordination with various business and functional
stakeholders.
- Develop and execute the Company's compliance auditing and
monitoring program. Coordinate compliance auditing and monitoring
plans and procedures with other Boston Scientific auditing
functions.
- Lead and execute data strategy and analytics for Global
Compliance. Develop and employ metrics for monitoring the
effectiveness of the Company's compliance program and related
activities.
- Oversee the Company's third-party program, including third
party intermediaries, channel partners and other third-party
relationships.
- As part of a cross-functional team, lead the Company's trade
compliance program to meet requirements related to sanctions and
other trade restrictions.
- Conduct an annual compliance risk assessment and participate in
the Company's enterprise risk management processes. Identify
opportunities to leverage existing compliance policies and best
practices across other business and functional groups where
relevant. This includes overseeing programs for corrective and
preventive actions, root cause analyses, systemic remediation and
other improvements to the compliance program designed to prevent,
detect and respond to compliance risk.
- Assist in compliance due diligence for business development
activity and lead integration of culture, compliance program
elements, systems and reporting obligations for acquisitions. Be a
subject-matter expert to advise business and other stakeholders
relating to the company's investment activities or as the expert on
the Company's compliance program for other corporate
initiatives.
- Lead identification and roll-out of systems to support
compliance operations worldwide. Oversee processes relating to
healthcare provider engagement.
- Coach direct reports in objective setting, regular
communication and feedback, development activities and appropriate
reward/recognition. Create and implement meaningful development
plans, and provide effective, timely performance reviews. Attract,
recruit and develop talent and leadership capabilities within the
Global Compliance team. Ensure strong succession planning so that
internal candidates are being developed to fill key positions
within Global Compliance.Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or higher.
- 15+ years of experience in large, global medical device or
healthcare company, including experience developing, implementing,
and maintaining enterprise-wide compliance programs.
- Extensive knowledge of laws and regulations applicable to
global medical device or healthcare companies, including AKS, False
Claims, FCPA, and the like.Preferred Qualifications:
- MS, JD or other advanced degree.
- Experience managing a sizable organization of compliance
professionals.
- Experience working in a multi-stakeholder or matrixed
environment, including interfacing with senior business management
and a public company board of directors.
- Experience with internal investigations and auditing and
monitoring.
